Dr. Seuss Read Across America Day
The Yuma Boys and Girls Club will celebrate Dr. Seuss Read Across America Day on Tuesday March 2, 2010.  Activities will commence at 3:30 PM when 70 Boys and Girls Club members will receive certificates acknowledging their outstanding efforts in a month long read-a-thon.  During the read-a-thon the 70 children read 589 books, exceeding the reading goal of 550.  In addition to the certificates, the top 10 readers (those that read the most books) will have opportunity to color the hair of their favorite staff member with green spray.

The Salvation Army Boys and Girls Clubs in Yuma and Somerton provide after-school care and education to over 150 children each day at two Yuma County locations.  Both Clubs offer programs that build character, educate and enrich the lives of each child.  Programs such as Money Matters, Meth Smart and Smart Moves teach children valuable decision making skills that prepare them for adult life.
