As Jesus was speakin g to the crowd, his mother and brothers were outside, wanting to talk with him. Someone told Jesus, “Your mother and your brothers are outside, and they want to speak to you.” Jesus asked, “Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?” Then he pointed to his disciples and said, “These are my mother and brothers. Anyone who does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother!” Mathew 12:46-50 (NLT)
Did Jesus really blow off his mom and brothers for his spiritual family? I’m no theologian but that’s
what it sounds like to me. I really hope that’s the case because that means He really loves and cares about you and me. It means that if we follow of Him then He views us as His family… and I’ll bet that’s gonna be a whale of a bar-b-que!
Can you imagine the scene one day at our family reunion? All of us, playing yard darts, hanging with the creator of the universe, our Dad. We will not be pointing fingers at each other, arguing about petty things, but will be living the dream as they say.
Hmmm… maybe we should do a little preparation by showing each other love now instead of waiting until we get to eternity. Would it be so tough to forgive that person who roughed you up a bit? They are after all, family.
