Cancer Support Group... A support group for those having to deal with the effects of cancer meet on the s second Monday at 7: pm at the Yuma Regional Corporate Center, 399 west 32nd Street.  for more information call 336-3919.

Daughters of the King meets on the second Monday of each month for women's/mother's fellowship from 10: am to 12: Noon at First Christian Church, located on the corner of 6E and 32nd Street.  Childcare is provided.  Call 726-5616 for more details.

  Tuesday Events

Eighth Grade and High School students who want to learn more about court procedures and want to be attorneys, baliffs, and jurors for real cases; here's your chance!  Teen Court meets every Tuesday from 5:30 to 8: pm at the Juvenile Justice, 2440 West 28th Street.  Adult volunteers are also welcome.  Call Lisa at 314-1900, ext. 1534 to learn more.

Amputee Support Group...A support group that provides support for amputee patients and their families.  Hosted by Hanger Prosthetics an Yuma Rehabilitation Hospital. This group meets every third Tuesday  at Yuma Rehabilitation Hospital, 901 W. 24th St.  For more information, call Alyssa Leon at 726-5000.

 Yuma SAMS: Senior Adult Ministries, a group of adults that meet every Tuesday and Thursday, 9-11 a.m. for fun and fellowship.  They meet in the hall of the First Church of the Nazarene, 19th St. and Avenue A.  Call 783-6810 for more information.

Yuma New Life Society Transplant Support Group: A support group for patients and their families who have had a transplant or are on a waiting list.  Held at Yuma Regional Corporate Center, 399 W. 32nd St.  For more information, call Maribel at 210-7943.

Diabetes Education Program:  The YRMC Diabetes Education program will offer a new 2-hour monthly class about the basics of diabetes.  First class will be September 29th and will continue to be held every other month on the last Tuesday of the month at 1:00 p.m. at the Yuma Regional Corporate Center, 399 W. 32nd St.  No registration is required.  The fee is a donation of a non-perishable food item or school supply.  For more information, contact Christine Winters at 336-2332.

Wednesday Events

Bariatric Support Group... Provides emotional and moral support to individuals who have had or are contemplating weight loss surgery.  This month's topic is "What is your goal? Let's be real!" Held at Yuma Regional Corporate Center, 399 West 32nd Street on the first Wednesday at 6:30 pm.  For more information, call Kathie at 210-9845.

Grief is the response to loss;  mourning is the process of working through that loss.  Hospice of Yuma Bereavement Support Group is offered as a resource and meets for six weeks on Wednesdays from 4: to 5:30 p.m.  For more information or to RSVP, call 336-1529.

The Main Library presents story time every Wednesday at 10:30 am for children ages 3 to 5 years of age, at 185. Main Street. 

First United Methodist Church, at 298 West 3rd Street ,has a program, WNO (Wednesday Night Out), to help promote family life.  The group meets together for dinner and then chooses a craft or activity.  Dinner begins at 5:45 and the program concludes at 7:30.  Cost of dinner is $2 per person with a max of $7 per family.  Nursery care is available.  Call 783-3674 to learn more.

""""Let's Pray""""" The Believers Prayer time is praying every Thursday in the conference room at the office of Christ the Redeemer, 16th St and AZ Ave, Ste # 2 behind Clear Talk, across Arizona Ave from the new National Bank.  The prayer time is 2pm to 3pm.  Join the growing number of Pastors, Ministry and Lay leaders that are praying for our area!

Diabetes 101 Class:  The YRMC Diabetes Education program will offer a new 2-hour monthly class about the basics of diabetes starting October 29th in Spanish and will continue on the last Thusday of alternating months.  The class will be held at the Somerton Branch Library, 240 W. Blood Pressure and Spirometry Checks... Yuma Regional Cardiopulmonary Services offers free blood pressure and spirometry checks on the third Friday of each month at YRMC Cardiac & Pulmonary Rehabilitation, 2550 South 4th Avenue.  For more information, call Jill at 336-7448.

The Main Library presents story time every Friday at 10:30 am for children ages 18 months to 3 years of age, at 185 Main Street.  (No story time during the holidays)

SAFE KIDS Car Seat Classes are held at the Yuma county Public Health Services District auditorium and are conducted by a NHTSA Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician.  Classes are held every other Friday in alternating English/Spanish languages.  The classes are approximately 1-1/2 hours long.  Please call (928)317-4580 to schedule an appointment.

Beginning Friday, July 3rd, English conversation classes will be held at the Foothills Library, 13226 E. South Frontage Road, every Friday at noon.  These classes will help you master the English Language.  Classes are free and open to the public.  If special assistance is required, please contact us 72 hours prior to the program at 342-1640.

Saturday Events

No perfect people are allowed!  Twenty4/7 meets every Saturday at 7: pm at First Christian Church, located on the corner of 32nd Street and 6E.  Child and youth activities are provided.  Questions?  Call 726-5616.

Friends of Yuma County Libraries holds a book sale on the first Saturday of each month at the Friends Store, 1225 West 8th Street, on the West side of the building, from 8: to 12: Noon.  They have a large variety of gently used books, magazines, CD's and videos.  Visit www.yumalibraryfriends.org or call 782-1871, ext. 6460.   

Women of Worship meet for breakfast the first Saturday of each month at 8:30 AM in the Morningside Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, 2900 8th Avenue. All women are invited to come. For information, call 344-2360. 

Pretty Ladies meet the first Saturday of every month at La Mesa Care Center in the therapy room to pamper the ladies by doing their nails and chatting with them from 2: to 4: pm.  Call Lynette at 246-6289.

The Silver Believers, 55 and older, have a get together at 4: PM on the 2nd and the 4th Saturday of every month at Morningside Baptist Church, 2900 8th Avenue. This group is open to the public. Call 344-2360 for details.

Yuma County Safe Kids are no accident!  The Yuma County Health Department offers child safety seats, bicycle helmets and needs volunteers in Safe Kids.  If interested, call 317-4580.

Need counseling?  New Life Counseling is a Christ centered counseling ministry of Arizona Baptist Children's Services, located at 2855 4th Avenue.  They offer counseling for individuals, couples and families.  Fees are based on a sliding fee scale according to family income.  To learn more or to set up an appointment, call 726-5568.

The Humane Society of Yuma's mission is to ensure the humane treatment of all animals, reduce the number of homeless pets, and promote the value and importance animals contribute to our live and community.  YPAWS, Yuma Providing Animal Welfare Support, allows individuals to show their support on a yearly basis, helping saving more animals lives.  You can register at www.hsoyuma.com or at 285 N. First Christian Church is offering support groups for substance recovery, prison  ministries, divorce recovery, grief recovery, domestic abuse and abortion recovery.  For meeting locations and times, call 726-5616.

Did you know that Crossroads Mission does 35 plus loads of laundry a day?  Family shelter clients need clean and good used clothes for job interviews.  Soap is always needed.  To donate or volunteer, call 726-0491, ext 17.

New Life Pregnancy Services is willing to train volunteers to work in the office or deliver flyers to the community.  They need more 'bottles for change' to be placed in public and help with collecting items for The Children's Attic Thrfit Store.  To donate items or vounteer please call 726-5568.

Habitat's ReStore has recycling bins for the public to use for the following items: cardboard; aluminum cans; plastic bottles ($1 & $2); old & unusable items; wood/metal/plastics/ and newspaper.  The bins are available for the public during normal business hours.  For further information, contact Debra at 783-3993.

The Second Paw Shop, on behalf of The Humane Society of Yuma, is located at 2375 S 4th Avenue, Suite 8, on the Northeast corner of 4th Avenue and 24th Street, behind Audio Einstein's.  The shop will be open Thursdays through Saturdays from 9: am to 5: pm.  Donations are always accepted by appointment, call 783-7899.  To volunteer, call 580-1000.

You can purchase Gift Cards at participating grocery stores in any amount and tell the cashier that you would like to give it as a donation to Crossroads Mission.  This will help when there is an 'ingredient emergency'.  Plus you will receive a letter for your tax records.  For details call 783-9362, ext 30.

The John E. Byrd Center for Community Literacy/Yuma Reading Council is hosting an ongoing book sale.  Come in and pick up a good book for your reading pleasure.  Books can also be donated to the Literacy Center site, or call for a pick up at 343-9363.

Serenity House is a resident home for males 18 years and older to further recovery from addictions.  Expectations involve attendance in a 12 step program, urinalysis, and education with the goal of becoming self-sufficient.  Call 783-5642 for details.

Crossroads Mission is in need of volunteers for the Second Chance Store and for helping the kitchen area.  Crossroads has speakers available to speak at your organization or business.  Call Barbara at 726-0491, ext 17.

The Salvation Army assists people in Yuma County all year long and is in need of your support.  Your tax-deductible donation of any household items help others.  Revenue from the Thrift Store stays in Yuma and helps continut services like daily hot meals, clothing, emergency assistance, youth summer camps and senior activities.  Please call 783-0181 to help.

New Life Pregnancy Services, generate a fundraiser and gather bath and beauty products for gift bags.  They are willing to give a presentation to your group at church or a club.  To donate items or volunteer, call 726-5568.

Yuma County Juvenile Justice Center is searching for volunteers to help youth ages 14-17 in reading.  Time commitment is a minimum of 3 hours a week for a 6 week session.  Call Annette at 314-1821.

New Life Children's Attic is now offering used quality maternity, infant and toddler clothing, baby furniture and more... all at a reasonable cost.  Located at 2855 4th Avenue and open Monday through Friday from 9: am to 2: pm.  Donations are accepted at Suite 122.  Call 726-5568 with questions.

When you shop at Crossroads Mission "2nd Chance Thrift Store", you are helping provide free meals, shelter, clothing and furniture to someone in need.  They have furniture, purses, shoes, clothing, household and miscellaneous items. Located at 2291 E. Palo Verde, open 8: AM to 3:PM, phone 726-0491.

New Life Crisis pregnancy Center is requesting gift bag items for girls and ladies after they receive counseling such as wash cloths and soaps, tooth-brushes and toothpaste, nail files and clippers, hair scrunchies, lotions and potions, new inexpensive earrings and make up.  Just think girlie stuff.  You will touch a heart!

Crossroads Mission is constantly in need of items to keep their ministry going.  If you would like to help, you can donate vegetables, hot dogs, sandwich meat, ground beef, chicken, sugar, eggs, milk or ask about hosting a food drive.  Call 726-0491, ext 17 and ask for Barbara.
