Pull Thru for the Prison
Drop off your loot at the Yuma Foothills Bank to help support the prison

Have you been wondering how you can help the Yuma Territorial Prison? They may have raised the $50,000 but the 60 day campaign has not yet drawn to a close and chain gangs are still raising money. “Any additional money raised at this point will be used for programming, education and immediate infrastructure needs at the prison,” stated Susan Sternitzke.

On March 19, 2010 a “Pull thru for the prison” event will take place at the Foothills Bank, located at 2285 4th Avenue. The event provides an easy way for people to donate money to the prison without leaving their cars. “Just pull thru, drop off the loot and the first 250 donors that contribute at least $5 will receive a bumper sticker stating that you are an official “chain gang member,” stated Sternitzke.

To assist in the efforts to reach the masses, local tv, radio and newspapers have offered free media space.  “Time Warner Cable approached us with an idea and it grew from there. TWC has very graciously offered their services and staff to assist in these efforts and suggested that we contact all media to participate,” stated Sternitzke.  To date, the participating media agencies are The Sun, KYMA, Channel 1 Yuma, KSWT, KECY (FOX, KESE, ABC5, Telemundo), El Dorado Broadcasters (95.1 KTTI, STAR and KBLU), Z93, Outlaw Country AM-1400, The White Sheet, KAWC and KCFY.

“We have been approached by several groups that plan to “man” a shift in the parking lot. These groups are now looking to the community to ask their friends and colleagues to join them.”

The groups are:
11am-1pm Public Service workers (policemen, firemen, sheriff’s office, etc.) This will also include local media celebrities.
1pm-3pm Yuma High CRIMS Alumni
3pm-5pm Elected city, county, state and regional officials
5pm-7pm Educators and students
7pm-9pm Current Yuma High CRIMS

These groups will compete against each other to determine who can raise the most money in their two hour allotment. In particular, the Yuma High CRIMS alumni will surely not want to be done-in by the younger version crims. “The game is on!” For more information, contact 928-782-5712.
