City of Yuma News Release:  Early voting begins October 7th, 2026

YUMA, Ariz. — The City of Yuma reminds residents that early voting for the November 3 General Election begins Wednesday, October 7. City voters will consider two propositions: a permanent adjustment to the City’s expenditure base and a City Charter amendment relating to signatures on nomination petitions for City elected office.

Voters elected the Mayor, three City Councilmembers, and the Presiding Municipal Judge in the July 21 Primary Election. Those offices will not appear on the General Election ballot.

Proposition 436 would authorize a $30 million permanent adjustment to the City of Yuma’s 1979-80 expenditure base. The expenditure base is used to calculate the City’s Annual Expenditure Limitation (AEL), which determines how much the City may spend each year under Arizona law. The measure does not create a new tax, increase existing tax rates, or authorize additional revenues. Instead, it would allow the City to spend revenues it already collects and lawfully receives. For additional information, visit YumaAz.gov/Prop436.

Proposition 437 would amend the City Charter to base candidate nomination petition signature requirements on valid ballots cast in the preceding primary municipal election instead of the preceding general municipal election. The requirement would remain 3% to 5% of valid ballots cast.

Voters can learn more about the propositions at YumaAz.gov/Elections and review the full ballot language in the City’s 2026 Publicity Pamphlet, available in English and Spanish.

Early voting

In-person early voting will be available October 7 through October 30 at the former Board of Supervisors Auditorium (198 S. Main Street). Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, with extended hours until 7 p.m. Friday, October 30.

Eight secure ballot drop boxes are accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and close at 7 p.m. Tuesday, November 3. Locations include the Yuma County Recorder’s Office (298 S. Main Street) and the Yuma County Main Library (2951 S. 21st Drive). A complete list of drop-box locations is available on the City’s voter information webpage.

Friday, October 23, is the last day to request an early ballot by mail and the recommended last day to mail a completed ballot. After October 23, voters are encouraged to return completed ballots to a designated drop box or to a vote center on Election Day.

Completed ballots must be received by 7 p.m. Tuesday, November 3. Postmarks do not count. Voters should sign, date, and provide a current phone number on the affidavit envelope included with their ballot.

Election Day

Vote centers will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, November 3. City of Yuma voters may cast their ballot at any vote center and will need to bring proper identification.
