The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind the public that illegal dumping is a crime and encourages the public to report illegal dumping immediately, especially if you witness the person and/or act in progress.
Illegal Dumping/Criminal Littering ranges from a class 2 misdemeanor to a class 6 felony depending on the type and amount of the debris being dumped. A class 6 felony carries a maximum penalty of 2 years in prison and a $150,000.00 fine.
The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office has a zero-tolerance approach to illegal dumping. Those who enjoy our desert areas recreationally, such as hikers, campers, hunters, and off-road vehicle operators, are asked to report polluted sites they come across and to also appropriately dispose of their debris to keep our deserts beautiful.
